1.The Heart Rests Only in the Remembrance of Allah

'Unquestionably, by the remembrance of Allah hearts find rest.' Every other rest the heart seeks is borrowed and brief; this alone is the rest it was created for.

Qur’ānThe heart was made to rest in one place only — the remembrance of Allah.

those who have believed and whose hearts are assured by the remembrance of allah. unquestionably, by the remembrance of allah hearts are assured."

malik said, "someone who has a nosebleed on the day of jumua while the imam is giving the khutba and he leaves and does not come back until the imam has finished the prayer, should pray four rakas.'' malik said that someone who prayed a raka with the imam on the day of jumua, then had a nosebleed and left and came back and the imam had prayed both rakas, should complete the prayer with another raka as long as he had not spoken. malik said, "if some one has a nosebleed, or something happens to him and he has no alternative but to leave, he does not have to ask permission of the imam if he wants to leave on the day of jumua." yahya related to me from malik that he had asked ibn shihab about the word of allah, the majestic, the mighty, "o you who accept, when the call is made for the prayer on the day of jumua, make haste to the remembrance of allah."(sura 62 ayat 9). ibn shihab said, ''umar ibn al-khattab used to recite, 'when the call is made for the prayer on the day of jumua, go to the remembrance of allah.' " malik said, "making haste in the book of allah is only deed and action. allah the blessed, the exalted, says 'and when he turns away, he acts in the land' (sura 2 ayat 205), and he, the exalted, said, 'and as for the one who comes to you acting with fear' (sura 80 ayat 8), and he said, 'then he turned his back, and acted' (sura 79 ayat 22),and he said, 'your deeds are diverse' " (sura 92 ayat 4). malik said, "thus making haste which allah mentions in his book is not running on the feet or exertion. it only means deed and actions

Narrated Anas bin Malik (RA): The Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) said to Abu Talha, "Choose one of your boys to serve me." So Abu Talha took me (to serve the Prophet) by giving me a ride behind him (on his camel). So I used to serve Allah's Apostle (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) whenever he stayed somewhere. I used to hear him saying, "O Allah! I seek refuge with you (Allah) from (worries) care and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by other men." I kept on serving him till he returned from (the battle of) Khaibar. He then brought Safiya, the daughter of Huyay whom he had got (from the booty). I saw him making a kind of cushion with a cloak or a garment for her. He then let her ride behind him. When we reached a place called As-Sahba', he prepared (a special meal called) Hais, and asked me to invite the men who (came and) ate, and that was the marriage banquet given on the consummation of his marriage to her. Then he proceeded till the mountain of Uhud appeared, whereupon he said, "This mountain loves us and we love it." When he approached Medina, he said, "O Allah! I make the land between its (i.e., Medina's) two mountains a sanctuary, as the prophet Abraham made Makkah a sanctuary. O Allah! Bless them (the people of Medina) in their Mudd and the Sa' (units of measuring)."

3.Reliance on Allah Lifts the Weight of Worry

'Whoever relies upon Allah — He is sufficient for him.' The one who truly relies is provided as the birds are: they go out empty and return full.

Qur’ānReliance on Allah lifts the crushing weight of trying to control outcomes.

and will provide for him from where he does not expect. and whoever relies upon allah - then he is sufficient for him. indeed, allah will accomplish his purpose. allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.

Qur’ānReliance on Allah lifts the crushing weight of trying to control outcomes.

so by mercy from allah, [o muhammad], you were lenient with them. and if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you. so pardon them and ask forgiveness for them and consult them in the matter. and when you have decided, then rely upon allah. indeed, allah loves those who rely [upon him].

Qur’ānReliance on Allah lifts the crushing weight of trying to control outcomes.

if allah should aid you, no one can overcome you; but if he should forsake you, who is there that can aid you after him? and upon allah let the believers rely.

HadithAhmad Muhammad Shakir: Sahih · Al-Albani: Sahih · Zubair Ali Zai: Isnaad HasanReliance on Allah lifts the crushing weight of trying to control outcomes.

anas bin malik narrated that the messenger of allah (ﷺ) said:“whoever says – that is: when he leaves his house – ‘in the name of allah, i place my trust in allah, there is no might or power except by allah (bismillāh, tawakkaltu `alallāh, lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh)’ it will be said to him: ‘you have been sufficed and protected,’ and shaitan will become distant from him.”

4.Contentment with the Decree

No affliction strikes except by Allah's leave — and the affair of the believer is all good: grateful in ease, patient in hardship, both a gain.

Qur’ānPeace with what has already been decreed.

no disaster strikes except by permission of allah. and whoever believes in allah - he will guide his heart. and allah is knowing of all things.

Qur’ānPeace with what has already been decreed.

no disaster strikes upon the earth or among yourselves except that it is in a register before we bring it into being - indeed that, for allah, is easy -

Qur’ānPeace with what has already been decreed.

in order that you not despair over what has eluded you and not exult [in pride] over what he has given you. and allah does not like everyone self-deluded and boastful -

5.Prayer — the Coolness of the Eye and the Soul's Rest

The Prophet ﷺ turned to prayer whenever a matter distressed him, and said the coolness of his eye was placed in it. It is not a burden to be endured but a rest to be sought.

Qur’ānPrayer as the soul's rest — 'Give us rest by it, O Bilāl.'

and seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to allah]

Qur’ānPrayer as the soul's rest — 'Give us rest by it, O Bilāl.'

indeed, i am allah. there is no deity except me, so worship me and establish prayer for my remembrance.

Qur’ānPrayer as the soul's rest — 'Give us rest by it, O Bilāl.'

recite, [o muhammad], what has been revealed to you of the book and establish prayer. indeed, prayer prohibits immorality and wrongdoing, and the remembrance of allah is greater. and allah knows that which you do.

6.The Supplications of Distress

The call of Dhū al-Nūn from the belly of the whale — 'There is no god but You, glory be to You, indeed I was among the wrongdoers' — no distressed believer calls with it but Allah answers.

Qur’ānThe supplications Allah answers in distress.

7.Gratitude Expands the Breast

'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you.' The grateful heart sees gifts where the ungrateful sees only lack — and the seeing itself is peace.

Qur’ānGratitude widens the breast and increases the blessing.

and [remember] when your lord proclaimed, 'if you are grateful, i will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, my punishment is severe.' "

Qur’ānGratitude widens the breast and increases the blessing.

so remember me; i will remember you. and be grateful to me and do not deny me.

8.Thinking Well of Allah

Allah's mercy encompasses all things, and He is to His servant as the servant expects of Him. The believer walks toward Him hoping, and dies thinking well of his Lord.

Qur’ānThinking well of Allah — 'I am as My servant thinks of Me.'

and decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to you." [allah] said, "my punishment - i afflict with it whom i will, but my mercy encompasses all things." so i will decree it [especially] for those who fear me and give zakah and those who believe in our verses -

Qur’ānThinking well of Allah — 'I am as My servant thinks of Me.'

9.Loosening the Grip of the World

'Be in the world as a stranger or a passer-by.' What we do not clutch too tightly cannot wound us too deeply when it goes; the heart light on the dunyā is the heart at rest.

Qur’ānLoosening the world's grip so it cannot break the heart.

know that the life of this world is but amusement and diversion and adornment and boasting to one another and competition in increase of wealth and children - like the example of a rain whose [resulting] plant growth pleases the tillers; then it dries and you see it turned yellow; then it becomes [scattered] debris. and in the hereafter is severe punishment and forgiveness from allah and approval. and what is the worldly life except the enjoyment of delusion.

10.The Tranquil Soul — the Journey's End

Allah sends down the sakīna upon the hearts of the believers; and to the soul that reaches rest He says: 'O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing.' That is where the whole path was heading.

Qur’ānThe tranquil soul — the sakīna Allah sends down, and the journey's end.

Adab & method

This is a page of consolation grounded in revelation, not a substitute for treating illness. The Sunnah that soothes the heart never forbids seeking a doctor for the body or the mind — the Prophet ﷺ commanded seeking treatment. If grief is heavy or persistent, reach for these words AND reach for help; both are from Allah. The peace described here is not the absence of trials but the presence of Allah within them.
