Ruqyah Shar'iyyah

Lawful spiritual healing and protection by the Qur'an Majeed and authentic Prophetic du'ās — the cure is from Allah alone.

How to Do Self-Ruqyah

  1. 1

Turn to Allah alone. Ruqyah is a lawful means (sabab); the cure is from Allah by His permission. Place your trust (tawakkul) in Him, not in the words, counts or the reciter.

  2. 2

Be in a state of wuḍū' if you can, face the qibla, and recite with presence of heart and understanding of the meaning.

  3. 3

Recite the Qur'anic verses and authentic du'ās above over yourself (or the patient), then blow gently with a little saliva over the hands and wipe them over the head, face and body — as the Prophet ﷺ did.

  4. 4

You may recite over clean water or oil and drink it or apply it — this is reported from the Companions. Avoid any practice with no basis in the Sunnah.

  5. 5

Be consistent and patient. Recovery may be quick or gradual; keep up your prayers, morning/evening adhkār, and good deeds, and never despair of Allah's mercy.

For your own situation

This page is general guidance, not a ruling for your case.

It cannot weigh the facts of your situation — the exact words said, the people involved, the law where you live. Put your question to a qualified scholar before acting on it.

Ruqyah is recitation and supplication, not a diagnosis. If symptoms are physical or affect the mind or mood, have them checked by a doctor as well.

  • Where your health is involved, see a qualified doctor as well. What is on this page does not replace medical or psychological care.
