Hadith Narrators (Rijāl)
Search thousands of transmitters — jarh-wa-taʿdil grade, death year, and city — from classical Sunni rijal works.
A hadith is judged not by its wording alone but by the people who carried it. This directory is those people: each narrator’s name, kunya, laqab, year of death, city, and the grade the classical rijāl works gave him.
The grades below run from Companion to fabricator. Tap any one to read what that term means. These gradings are the sources’ own, never ours — and critics can and do differ over the same narrator.
Each narrator also shows what kind of statement the source made: a collective verdict of the critics, a recorded disagreement, one stated verdict, a mere listing in a book, or an inference from chains that is no imam’s words at all.
