Worship Allah alone and associate nothing with Him; be good to parents, kin, orphans and neighbours.
Verses of the Qur’an that give a command, a prohibition, or a directive — organized by topic.
Worship Allah alone and associate nothing with Him; be good to parents, kin, orphans and neighbours.
Your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you be excellent to parents.
Declare the absolute Oneness of Allah — the foundation of faith.
Remember Allah and He will remember you; be grateful to Him and do not deny Him.
Remember your Lord within yourself humbly and with awe, morning and evening.
Fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims.
Bow, prostrate, worship your Lord and do good, that you may succeed.
Worship Allah alone and be among the grateful.
O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous -
And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.
And they were not commanded except to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion, inclining to truth, and to establish prayer and to give zakah. And that is the correct religion.
And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], "Worship Allah and avoid Taghut." And among them were those whom Allah guided, and among them were those upon whom error was [deservedly] decreed. So proceed through the earth and observe how was the end of the deniers.
Indeed, We have sent down to you the Book, [O Muhammad], in truth. So worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion.
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly fabricated a tremendous sin.
Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly gone far astray.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Luqman said to his son while he was instructing him, "O my son, do not associate [anything] with Allah. Indeed, association [with him] is great injustice."
They have certainly disbelieved who say, "Allah is the Messiah, the son of Mary" while the Messiah has said, "O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Indeed, he who associates others with Allah - Allah has forbidden him Paradise, and his refuge is the Fire. And there are not for the wrongdoers any helpers.
Inclining [only] to Allah, not associating [anything] with Him. And he who associates with Allah - it is as though he had fallen from the sky and was snatched by the birds or the wind carried him down into a remote place.
[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him].
And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave [the company of] those who practice deviation concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they have been doing.
And your Lord says, "Call upon Me; I will respond to you." Indeed, those who disdain My worship will enter Hell [rendered] contemptible.
Say, "Come, I will recite what your Lord has prohibited to you. [He commands] that you not associate anything with Him, and to parents, good treatment, and do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them. And do not approach immoralities - what is apparent of them and what is concealed. And do not kill the soul which Allah has forbidden [to be killed] except by [legal] right. This has He instructed you that you may use reason."
And, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.
Do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity and [thereby] become censured and forsaken.
That is from what your Lord has revealed to you, [O Muhammad], of wisdom. And, [O mankind], do not make [as equal] with Allah another deity, lest you be thrown into Hell, blamed and banished.
And your god is one God. There is no deity [worthy of worship] except Him, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
And [yet], among the people are those who take other than Allah as equals [to Him]. They love them as they [should] love Allah. But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah. And if only they who have wronged would consider [that] when they see the punishment, [they will be certain] that all power belongs to Allah and that Allah is severe in punishment.
Unquestionably, for Allah is the pure religion. And those who take protectors besides Him [say], "We only worship them that they may bring us nearer to Allah in position." Indeed, Allah will judge between them concerning that over which they differ. Indeed, Allah does not guide he who is a liar and [confirmed] disbeliever.
And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me - indeed I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided.
He is the Ever-Living; there is no deity except Him, so call upon Him, [being] sincere to Him in religion. [All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
Indeed, those you [polytheists] call upon besides Allah are servants like you. So call upon them and let them respond to you, if you should be truthful.
Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.
You only worship, besides Allah, idols, and you produce a falsehood. Indeed, those you worship besides Allah do not possess for you [the power of] provision. So seek from Allah provision and worship Him and be grateful to Him. To Him you will be returned."
And who is more astray than he who invokes besides Allah those who will not respond to him until the Day of Resurrection, and they, of their invocation, are unaware.
And do not invoke besides Allah that which neither benefits you nor harms you, for if you did, then indeed you would be of the wrongdoers.'"
And [He revealed] that the masjids are for Allah, so do not invoke with Allah anyone.
[More precisely], is He [not best] who created the heavens and the earth and sent down for you rain from the sky, causing to grow thereby gardens of joyful beauty which you could not [otherwise] have grown the trees thereof? Is there a deity with Allah? [No], but they are a people who ascribe equals [to Him].
And whoever invokes besides Allah another deity for which he has no proof - then his account is only with his Lord. Indeed, the disbelievers will not succeed.
[Through a messenger, saying], "Do not worship except Allah. Indeed, I am to you from Him a warner and a bringer of good tidings,"
And We sent not before you any messenger except that We revealed to him that, "There is no deity except Me, so worship Me."
And Allah has said, "Do not take for yourselves two deities. He is but one God, so fear only Me."
It is You we worship and You we ask for help.
Allah - there is no deity except Him. To Him belong the best names.
He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.
Say, "Indeed, my prayer, my rites of sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah, Lord of the worlds.
Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, I have been commanded to worship Allah, [being] sincere to Him in religion.
Allah - there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Great Throne."
Say, "Call upon Allah or call upon the Most Merciful. Whichever [name] you call - to Him belong the best names." And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer or [too] quietly but seek between that an [intermediate] way.
Indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so worship Me.
And indeed this, your religion, is one religion, and I am your Lord, so fear Me."
If you associate — your deeds will be nullified. Shirk erases past acceptance.
How scholars derived it: Even after decades of ʿibādah, shirk cancels the record — hence its severity.
Hadith support: Sahih Muslim (Allah does not accept a deed with any partner).
Allah does not forgive shirk but forgives everything less — for whom He wills.
How scholars derived it: The one sin without automatic forgiveness (unless tawbah before death); other sins fall under divine mashīʾah.
Hadith support: Sahih al-Bukhari (the Prophet ﷺ on the exclusive rank of shirk).
Call upon Me — I will respond to you. Duʿāʾ is a commanded and heard act of worship.
How scholars derived it: The imperative "udʿūnī" makes duʿāʾ a commanded ʿibādah with divine promise.
Hadith support: Sunan at-Tirmidhi (duʿāʾ is worship).
It is He who made you successors on the earth — the trust of khilāfah.
How scholars derived it: Every human is a khalīfah with stewardship duties; this frames environmental and social ethics.
Hadith support: Sahih Muslim (world is verdant and sweet — Allah appointed you khalīfah in it).
He holds back the heaven from falling on the earth — except by His permission. Awe of divine sustenance.
How scholars derived it: Cosmic dependency generates existential humility; every moment is by divine permission.
Hadith support: Sahih Muslim (the earth's continued being is by Allah's will).
The fiṭrah (natural disposition) of Allah, upon which He created mankind.
How scholars derived it: Every human is born with tawḥīd-orientation; deviations are cultural, not innate.
Hadith support: Sahih al-Bukhari (every child is born upon fiṭrah).
In the creation of the heavens and earth are signs for people of understanding.
How scholars derived it: Reflection (tadabbur) on creation is a form of ʿibādah; scientific inquiry with faith is virtuous.
Hadith support: Sunan at-Tirmidhi (thinking for an hour is better than years of ʿibādah).
Our Lord, you did not create this in vain — the reflective duʿāʾ.
