Kids' Salah
A gentle, happy guide that teaches children how to pray, step by step.

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ
Salah is our special talk with Allah ﷻ. We pray five times every day. Let’s learn how, one happy step at a time!
🌷 The Prophet ﷺ said: “Command your children to pray when they are seven years old.” — Abu Dawud 495
🕌Our Five Daily Prayers
Fajr
Early morning, before sunrise
2 farḍ rak‘ahs
Dhuhr
Middle of the day
4 farḍ rak‘ahs
Asr
Late afternoon
4 farḍ rak‘ahs
Maghrib
Just after sunset
3 farḍ rak‘ahs
Isha
At night, before you sleep
4 farḍ rak‘ahs
How many rakʿahs — and which are farḍ
The farḍ are what the prayer is not valid without. The sunnah are additional — and their number differs between the schools.
| Prayer | When | Farḍ |
|---|---|---|
| Fajr | Before sunrise | 2 |
| Ẓuhr | After the sun passes its peak | 4 |
| ʿAṣr | Late afternoon | 4 |
| Maghrib | Just after sunset | 3 |
| ʿIshāʾ | Night, after the twilight has gone | 4 |
All four schools agree on these farḍ counts.
The sunnah — by school
The sunnah counts below were compiled from each school’s standard manuals and have not yet been checked by a scholar on this platform. Treat them as an introduction, not a ruling — and confirm with a trustworthy scholar of your school before acting on them.
The sunnah counts differ between the schools. You have “Show all” selected, so all four are compared here rather than one standing in for the rest.
| Prayer | Hanafi | Shafi'i | Maliki | Hanbali |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fajr | 2 + 0 | 2 + 0 | 2 + 0 | 2 + 0 |
| Ẓuhr | 4 + 2 | 2 + 2 | 0 + 0 | 2 + 2 |
| ʿAṣr | 0 + 0 | 0 + 0 | 0 + 0 | 0 + 0 |
| Maghrib | 0 + 2 | 0 + 2 | 0 + 2 | 0 + 2 |
| ʿIshāʾ | 0 + 2 | 0 + 2 | 0 + 2 | 0 + 2 |
Each cell: stressed sunnah before + after the farḍ.
👣How to Pray — Step by Step
🌟 The Prophet ﷺ said: “Pray as you have seen me pray.” — Bukhari 631
Stand up straight and face the Qibla — the direction of the Ka‘bah in Makkah.
Make your niyyah (intention) in your heart: “I am going to pray for Allah.”
Raise your hands to your ears and say the takbir to begin.
Say this
اللّٰهُ أَكْبَر
Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest.
Stand with your right hand over your left. Read Surah Al-Fatihah, then a short surah like Al-Ikhlas.
Bow down (ruku), put your hands on your knees, and keep your back straight. Say it three times.
Say this
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْعَظِيم
Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem
Glory to my Lord, the Most Great.
Stand up straight again from ruku.
Say this
سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَه
Sami‘Allahu liman hamidah
Allah hears the one who praises Him.
Go down into sujud (prostration). Put your forehead, nose, hands, knees and toes on the ground. Say it three times.
Say this
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى
Subhana Rabbiyal A'la
Glory to my Lord, the Most High.
Sit up calmly for a little moment between the two sujud.
Say this
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي
Rabbighfir li
My Lord, forgive me.
Go down into sujud a second time and say it three times again. That completes one rak‘ah!
Say this
سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيَ الْأَعْلَى
Subhana Rabbiyal A'la
Glory to my Lord, the Most High.
In the last sitting, read the tashahhud and raise your finger when you say the shahadah.
Finish by turning your face right, then left, and give salam. Well done — you prayed!
Say this
السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللّٰه
As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah
Peace and Allah’s mercy be upon you.
